Tips For Wine Pairing With Italian Food


If you are one who panics when it comes to consider wine pairing with Italian food, relax. It is not as difficult as you may think. Easy to follow hints can make it a cinch. Once you get the basics down, you can experiment and create other combinations that you enjoy.

Cabernet Sauvignon should accompany a dish that has a sauce made using red wines or tomato based. It also goes well along side beef, game birds and leg of lamb. Chianti is another good option for any dishes that are made using a tomato sauce.


Pinot Noir also goes alongside dishes of pasta made using an olive oil based sauce. It would also pair well next to a grilled tuna. Think light flavors when using this vino. Mild red meats, chicken, and light seafood.


Chianti and Pinot Grigio are both wonderful accompaniments to dishes from this type of cuisine. You can usually play it safe by serving one or both alongside almost any dish. When in doubt, pull these out and serve.


Sauvignon Blanc is an excellent choice for veal. It also enhances certain seafood dishes that are common in this cuisine. Mussels, calamari, clams and oysters will all tastes great served along side this vino.


One final thought about
wine pairing with italian food is not to forget that each course may require a different one. You would not necessary serve the same one during each course. For example when having dessert, you would want something sweet, not something robust. Of course if there is something that you enjoy, serve it.
